Trial Update: A team of Woodcock Washburn lawyers, including Dianne Elderkin, Barbara Mullin and Steve Maslowski, represented plaintiffs Centocor Ortho Biotech and New York University in Centocor Ortho Biotech, Inc. and New York University v. Abbott Laboratories, Abbott Bioresearch Center, Inc., and Abbott Biotechnology Limited in the Eastern District of Texas. They were joined by co-counsel Dick Sayles of Sayles Werbner in Dallas. On June 29, a jury returned a verdict that the plaintiffs' patent was willfully infringed and not invalid, and awarded damages of $1.67 billion, reported by Bloomberg to be the largest jury verdict in history in a patent case.
