Woodcock Washburn in the Community

Woodcock Washburn has a long-standing commitment to community support and philanthropy. Our partners and employees generously donate time and money throughout the year as well as during major crises.

The cornerstone of the firm's ongoing charitable support is "Friday Jeans Day," a program that encourages employees to make charitable donations for the opportunity to wear jeans to work. A worthy charity such as the American Heart Association, the Epilepsy Foundation, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Make a Wish Foundation, and Toys for Tots is selected to receive the donations each month.

As examples of responses to natural disasters, Woodcock Washburn lawyers and employees responded immediately with cash donations to the South Asian Tsunami Relief Fund and provided temporary office space, cash and household items to displaced attorneys in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Personal commitments are also common across the Firm. Woodcock Washburn provided funding to one of our partners who joined a medical mission to Honduras, taking medications and personal items, such as reading glasses and toothbrushes, to the needy in that region. Other individuals at our firm participate in a variety of nonprofit organizations such as the Goizueta Foundation, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Philadelphia Cares and Coaches Curing Kids Cancer.

Woodcock provides significant support to law schools in their teaching of intellectual property law. The Firm funds the John J. Mackiewicz Memorial Fund at the Temple University School of Law and sponsors the Woodcock Washburn Professorship of Intellectual Property at the Drexel University School of Law. In addition, attorneys teach intellectual property law at law schools including Temple University and Rutgers University.

The Firm also has an ongoing commitment to Pro Bono work. Most of those efforts have addressed trademark and copyright issues. Clients have included a church, a women's organization, and several charities addressing children's issues.
